The path of electricity

Science
Grade 3

A small bulb lights up when you join it to a dry cell with wires. It lights only when the electricity goes all the way around, from the plus end of the cell through the bulb and back to the minus end. This loop is called a circuit, and if the loop is broken no electricity flows. Putting an iron nail or a wooden toothpick into the loop shows that some things let electricity through and others do not. Metals such as iron let electricity flow.
