How human life begins
Science
Grade 5
A human life begins inside the mother's body. An egg and a sperm join to make a fertilized egg, which grows inside the mother for about 38 weeks before the baby is born. The growing child is called a fetus, and it grows while taking in food and other things from the mother through the placenta and the umbilical cord. Looking this up in books, videos, and body atlases, and comparing it with the eggs of medaka, shows how life is passed from parent to child.
