How things warm up
Science
Grade 4
Even when you heat things in the same way, heat travels through them differently. With heat-sensitive ink you can see that metal warms up bit by bit, spreading out from the part that is heated. Water and air warm up in another way: the warmed part rises, so the whole thing warms from the top downward. Heat carried by moving warm water or air is called convection. Air conditioners blow their air upward because of it.
