How pendulums swing
Science
Grade 5
Hang a weight on a string and swing it, and it goes back and forth as a pendulum. To find out what decides the time of one swing, you change the length of the string, the weight, and the width of the swing one at a time, keeping everything else the same. Timing ten swings and taking the average gives an accurate time for one swing. You find that the weight and the width of the swing do not change the time, and that only the length of the pendulum does.
