Our bodies and how we move

Science
Grade 4

Inside our body there are hard bones and soft muscles. Arms and legs bend at joints, the places where two bones meet, and you can feel this on your own body or on a model skeleton. When you bend and stretch your arm, muscles tighten and relax at the same time. Muscles pull on bones as they tighten, and that is how we move. Comparing our body with animals such as rabbits and pigeons shows that they have bones and muscles too, and that they move in much the same way.
