How medaka fish are born
Science
Grade 5
Watching medaka shows how fish are born. Medaka are male or female, and you can tell them apart by the shape of the back and belly fins. Both are needed for young fish to be born. When an egg from the female joins with sperm from the male, the egg is fertilized, and day by day the inside of the egg changes. Under a microscope you can see the heart beating and the blood moving, until at last a baby fish hatches. Comparing this with salmon and other fish shows that life is passed on in the same way.
