How electric current works
Science
Grade 4
Join a dry cell, a motor, and a propeller, and your car runs on electricity. The current flows out of the plus end of the cell and back into the minus end, so turning the cell around turns the current around too and the motor spins the other way; a galvanometer shows this. How you join the cells also changes the current. Two cells one after the other, in series, make a bigger current, so the motor spins faster, but two cells side by side, in parallel, give about the same current as a single cell.
