The sun, shadows, and the ground
Science
Grade 3
A shadow appears when something blocks sunlight, and it always stretches to the side away from the sun. While you play shadow tag and check north, south, east, and west with a compass, you find that the sun moves across the sky as time passes and that the shadows move with it. Sunlight also warms the ground, so sunny spots and shady spots have different temperatures: sunny ground is warm and dry, and shady ground is cool and damp.
