Our neighborhood and our city

Social studies
Grade 3

Looking out over the town from the school roof or a high place, and walking around it along different routes, you notice that places in your neighborhood and your city look different from one another. You see the shape of the land and how it is used, how roads and railways spread out, where public buildings are and what they do, and where old buildings and old streets remain. You can say where your city is in your prefecture by using north, south, east, and west. With directions and map symbols, what you saw and heard can become a simple map that shows the whole city.
