How insects grow and their body parts
Science
Grade 3
If you raise cabbage white or swallowtail butterflies from eggs, you find that insects grow in a set order. Some insects, like butterflies, go from egg to larva to pupa to adult. Others, like dragonflies and grasshoppers, go from egg to larva to adult with no pupa at all. The body of an adult insect is made of a head, a thorax, and an abdomen, with six legs on the thorax. Comparing butterflies with other insects shows that every insect shares this body plan.
