Living things and the environment

Science
Grade 6

Living things eat and are eaten, and this chain of eating is called a food chain. Looking at medaka and tiny water creatures under a microscope shows that small living things become food for fish, and following food back far enough always leads to plants, which make their own food from sunlight. Living things are also tied to their surroundings through air and water. Plants give oxygen to the air, and animals breathe that oxygen in. Water on the Earth evaporates from the sea and the ground, becomes clouds, falls as rain, and returns again, and living things live within that cycle.
